September 2011SEPTEMBER 2011Human Trafficking Awareness seminar setTuesday, September 27, 2011 Dawn Cribbs McCOOK, Nebraska -- The idyllic landscape, the down-to-earth people and the inborn self-sufficiency of the culture on the High Plains may conspire to hide a deep dark secret, happening in neighborhoods and communities that line the north/south corridor formed by U.S. Highway 83. It is well-hidden for a reason. No one is supposed to know that it happens, because if they knew, they might do something to stop it. "It" is human trafficking, whether for cheap labor, prostitution or child pornography. Domestic Abuse/Sexual Assault Services and Aglow International are bringing the secret into the light of day, Oct. 8, 9 a.m.-noon, at Memorial Auditorium in McCook with the "Human Trafficking Awareness Seminar." Al Riskowski, Nebraska Family Life Council, will define human trafficking. Anna Brewer, a special agent with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Innocence Lost program, will talk about what is happening in Nebraska and how to report suspicious behavior. Nebraska Sen. Mark Christensen will speak about what is going on with the state Legislature regarding this issue. Leticia Bonifas with the Nebraska Domestic Violence Sexual Assault Coalition will talk about prevention, identify who is at risk and reveal signs of abuse. Amber Knox, an advocate for victims of human trafficking, will explain how to help victims get back on their feet. A free will offering will be accepted to help cover costs. Riskowsi, Konz and Brewer also will speak to students at Southwest High School on Friday, Oct. 7. For more information, contact Deb Dolan (308) 364-2243 of DASAS (308) 345-1612. I don't usually put prayer requests on the front page, but this one needs to be. I don't know these people but do know that they are in need of our prayers. Thankyou. Admin. Painful Truth September 13Sorry but this update is not too cheery. I will not go into too much detail but basically I was hospitalized last Thursday to this Monday due to excessive bleeding from my nose. Once again my platelets were < 9 as a normal platelet count should be around 125. Dr. Silverberg immediately admitted me as my WBC tested out at .3 which put me in a dangerous state in regard to contagious infections and illness. My recent chemo treatment wiped out my red cell blood count as well. Unfortunately when all these counts go down simultaneously, the condition Pancytopenia is introduced. As a result my Oncologist felt that additional chemo at any point from here on out was not an option. So essentially my Chemo treatments are finished. There is nothing more they can do for me. We discussed options such as Hospice but after delving into the plan; Hospice would not treat any of my symptoms that if treated could possibly prolong my life a bit longer. So Todd and I decided to go with the Home Health Care option (Palliative Care). With this plan Home Health Care staff will be providing twice weekly visits with 24 x 7 support if needed. I have not met the entire HHC team yet but they are already providing equipment for me to use during this stage. We will initiate the Hospice option once Home Health Care is of no value. We are hoping to get a few extra months to spend with my family before entering into Hospice. We would like to thank everyone for all the support and kindness. Please contact Todd via email tjvanroy@cox.net or cell phone if you plan on visiting me at the house as I can only handle minimal visits because of my weakness and lack of stamina. Thanks admin- Stephan Baker for videotaping & putting the special forum on the internet.
Thanks rock- for the radio ad telling us about the $250,000 deficit & when the city council was having the special forum. Thanks for paying for KNLV to live broadcast the public forum. Like this first lady that stood up to talk a lot of people didn’t even know anything about the deficit or their hastily scheduled public forum.
It’s good to have some people that are willing to spend their time & money to keep us informed of what our elected officials are doing & how our tax money is being spent.
