My favorite part was that more people clapped for Marty Petska than for anybody on the CARE committee or Paul Dorr. Coming in at a close second was the large amount of information that was proved wrong (bank loan to deposit rates, school budget numbers, enrollment figures that CARE has that they knowingly ommitted from graphs provided, etc.). Also nice to hear from Dorr that what was good for him in 1974 as far as a gym (which it looks like he hasn't seen for a long time, if ever) is BETTER than having what is considered average for a school now.

Also interesting that Kurt Petska got up and spoke about the dead end hallway. If they knew in 2003 that the doors from the hallway going into the library couldn't be a valid exit, how could that all of a sudden change in a phone call that we only got to hear part of and where there was no indication that the fire marshal knew he was being recorded? Seems pretty fishy to me - especially when he said he wouldn't make any changes to his letter and that includes that hallway being considered a "dead end."

Hellooooooooooooooo (echo, echo, echo) Anybody out there? (echo, echo, echo)

Just remembered an exchange from last night. Larry Keolling talked about the board saying it was the "best time" to build at the last bond election, and how they are saying it again now. He commented, "There can't be 2 best times to build." Yet he spoke later about the "bottom line" being the check he took to the courthouse every year, then said the "bottom line" was the children's safety. He continued to say that there are "2 bottom lines."

From what he said, then, there can only be 1 "best time" (an absolute statement - yeah, I agree they goofed on that one), but there can be 2 "bottom lines" (another absolute statement - how can something be below the bottom line?). Logistically speaking, this argument is pretty crappy!

Wow that is 9:57 of my life I would like back, hopefully the rest is better. How did Paul Dorr ever effect any Bond issue?

Okay part 2 was better, but next time Paul Dorr is in town have a AED close by. Poor guy sounded like he was on his last breath.

Bill - I was there for the whole thing, and I have to tell you there were a lot of moans and groans when Paul Dorr and Larry Keolling said the school didn't need an elevator for a handicapped 4-year old to get out in case of a fire! Paul Dorr's reasoning, "There hasn't been a reported fire in any high school for the past 6 years." Wow, but what happens if those steam pipes burst in the school or a fire does happen to break out? Paul Dorr and Larry = "I'm sure some chivalrous student, teacher, or administrator will carry them out." What happens if that person trips or falls? Or what if panic sets in and no one thinks fast enough? Better yet, what if those chivalrous people are going down one of the other two stair wells from the second floor? My point is you never know what will happen when the human emotion of FEAR sets in, but you do know if you have an elevator that there is a way out for those that can't use the stairs!

By the way, what kind of compassion did that show by Dorr and Larry that they just brushed off the parent of a disabled child and basically said, "Your child doesn't need an elevator, they just need someone to carry them around!" REAL CLASSY GUYS!

Shakes Denial is an element of addiction. The officers that seen you at the presentation, they all agreed that your dilated eyes shows what you've been doing. Substance abuse therapy will help with that. You can ask for help.

Snakes,
Well, Way to state a lie. Watch the video. There was only sympathy given to the lady with the handicapped child. No where did they state they had no concern for the little girl.
When was the last time you were in an elevator? Right on the wall it states, IN CASE OF FIRE USE THE STAIRS.
They were correct when they said that the child would have to be carried down. If it would be an electrical fire, the electricity would also be shut off.
I agree with sting, Maybe you should get some therapy.

Shakes I will have to say I agree with you on the topic of the elevator and the way it was addressed by the CARE 5 group. As a mother I was appalled with the answer they gave. I believe they were caught off guard by the comments posed to them and unfortunately they answered in haste. Here is my question if the unthinkable were to happen and a child had to depend on someone to carry them down the steps, and they were to fall and be injured. How will the school fit the bill on the lawsuits that will presented in the wake of the accident. Yes I understand that elevators are not suppose to be used for the general public in a fire but in some cases it is the safest and quickest way out.

Falcon I am sure they were sympathetic to the parent of the child spoken of, but unfortunately they spoke to quickly and came across very callous.
