Letters...

Ordtalk has been sitting on this letter for some time now and I was hoping that it might just come out in a VoxPop or maybe on the radio, but no such luck. Here it is, reprinted for your viewing pleasure. There are so many directions we could take with this but for now I think it speaks for itself as to the lengths some of our fellow citizens will go to in order to get what they want.

Re: New Gymnasium Seating

Date: February 11, 2010

In a move to get a bond issue passed we decided to call the new facility a practice gym

that would be converted into a competition gym through private funds. Thanks to

tremendous support from all of you and others in the community, the bond issue passed.

Now the other shoe drops! We need to raise approximately $160,000 or $100/seat in the

next 12 months and I would really appreciate your help in raising this money. We have

a donor that will match any donation up to $100,000, which is great but means that we

will need to raise at least $80,000. We have received some funds already and have

commitments for approximately $20,000 for scoreboards which leaves about $60,000 to

be raised.

The Ord School Foundation has agreed to sponser the drive, which makes donations

to the Foundation tax deductible. If you would like to join me in making a

donation, we can make a monthly deduction from your pay check, using the attached

form. You can also just make a check to the Foundation.

Thanks for your support and please help us finish this project to make a competition gym

for our students.

Sincerely,

Max

Just a couple of Questions to get you going:

1. What happens if you don't wish to donate? Does this mean you're not a "Team Player"?

2. Since there is no Stimulus Money this next year to keep the schools afloat, when the cutbacks come as they well may, who and or what will get cut to make the budget balance?

3. In a move to get a bond issue passed, we decided to call the new facility a practice gym...

Number 3 is what you get when your Elected Officials and Public Servants (those whose entire careers are financed by Taxes) decide that in order to get what they want, THEY NEED TO DECEIVE THE PUBLIC.

WHY? Just tell the truth, do your job and let the people who write your paycheck or vote you into office decide. Its the American Way, not the Chicago Way.

Quick question: What "Elected officials" are getting their "careers" paid for by taxpayer money that were involved in this bond? Sounds to me like you're just bitter that the bond passed, so now you're going to nit-pick everything the board/superintendent does to make yourself feel better. The letter definitely could have been worded better and could have made it sound more like a choice for the employees, but I don't think anyone seeking donations will ever come out and say, "Well, you don't have to and I understand if you don't."

This whole article just stinks of the next leg of the "Baker School Board Campaign." This time maybe he won't even put up signs before accusing the incumbents of stealing them! Or better yet, sue the school again because they didn't stop the meeting for his bathroom break!

Touch a nerve Shakes? Its an either/or, not a both. You're either elected or you're hired. Also sorry to disappoint you, I will not be running for schoolboard. They deserve pretty much all the credit for what happens from here on out and I would be ashamed to steal any of their well deserved thunder.

By the way, give it up on the signs buddy, long ago and far away, lesson learned and never to be repeated. And as for a "bathroom break", what are you talking about? Thats why we video the meetings Shakey, so we don't have to worry about a bathroom break!

First, learn how to write then before you put up a "news story." Telling me to "hear what you meant, not what you said" is pretty much idiotic. I did go ahead and ask a school board member about the letter and first thing they did was roll their eyes at the first sentence, saying that wasn't how the decision was made at all (and being a faithful meeting attendee, you should know that). As far as the signs, it was only meant to jab at you about what kind of person you are (lightly throwing accusations around with no proof whatsoever), and the "bathroom break" wasn't shedding light on any one incident, but rather your hair trigger when it comes to suing the school. Last, the whole "real name" thing is getting tired and frankly, it's just annoying. I've told everyone on here multiple times, I will reveal myself when and if everyone else does. In arguments of these sorts, anonymity is a big advantage (except in your case where everyone already knows you're an ignorable blow-hard).

One more thing. How sad is it that a simple letter such as this one written in a town of just over two thousand people needs to be proofread by a bunch of different people before it is sent out just so idiots with personal agendas don't scrutinize every word of it? What's even more sad is that there are people out there that take time away from being with their families to look through everything with a magnifying glass to find something to complain about.

Shakes, how sad it is that our top school administrator/school board sets an example for our kids to manipulate, maneuver and lie to get a new gym passed. The proof is in the letter.

Anyone wonder why our country is in such sad shape?
No spin will change that. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but there are those who knew from the beginning what was being done.

It is clear that some have values, some compromise their values, and some have no values whatsoever.

Tax payers are now stuck having to pay an enormous bill. There are those who are not mindless robots and go along with everything the "big money spenders" want. Tax payers simply do not have the money to buy all of the things the "big money spenders" want. Why is it that it is so hard for people to get this through their heads????????????
They do not believe the extra taxes their neighbors' have to pay will have any affect on them or our community.
How sad.

My thought on this is that it was a very poor written letter and it is being taken out of context of what he was trying to get across..I would think a school adminstrator would write something a little more thought out but he didn't..I really truly believe that people need to stop taking things so seriously and lighten up..not everything is a "out to getcha" act.

steffan baker - Friday, March 5 2010 at 1:51pm

jabgone, I would agree with you up to a point, but considering what this school board and administration have done in the past, I don't give them the benefit of the doubt anymore. Once burned twice shy. When you have a school board that passes a rule that only affects two children and one of them happens to be yours, call me, we'll talk about it. When you have a current school board member lie about something he thinks you did, and he does in a public forum where you are not allowed to respond, we can talk about that too. Do I have a beef with the school board and administration, yes, of course I do. They can deal with that just the same way I have to deal with their actions that affect my family and myself. Welcome to Democracy.
I do appreciate your opinions and even though we disagree on a few minor things, at least we can carry on a conversation.

jab-gone,

Max was actually telling the truth for once when he wrote the letter. It wasn't that it was poorly written, he just let the cat out of the bag for the "Big Tax Crowd". (Those who pay huge amounts of taxes knew what was happening from the beginning.)
