ELECTION NIGHT!

Let the Games Begin!

Ordtalk would like to request that comments be limited to the front page tonight as the election results come in.

UPDATE!

Word from the Courthouse is that its going to be a LONG, LONG NIGHT. Some 1800 votes were in by this morning and then the deluge hit. Its going to take them awhile to sort them, open them and count them. Stay tuned...

Keep it clean and we will give results as they come in. The whole thing should be over by MIDNIGHT although the final tally will have to be certified on Thursday.

Your Opinions and best guess bets are Welcome! Win or Lose, just be glad we have the opportunity to vote in this country.

Hows the water? Looks like we might be here awhile if the front page is right. So, what does and inflow of votes mean and who for?

Lawman - Tuesday, November 10 2009 at 9:00pm

I am not sure.........in most elections, you can tell.......but in this one, I just am not sure who will benefit from a large turnout!

Lawman - Tuesday, November 10 2009 at 9:01pm

Guess I could never be politician.........lol

I will be amazed if the election results don't get challenged. First and foremost -- this was not an anonymous election. It was required by anyone who mailed their ballots in, that they had to sign their ballots. What ever happened to "secret ballot" which is one of the most basic of American rights. I looked up Voters Rights on the Secretary of State's website, and #2 says all voters are guaranteed the right to cast a secret ballot. What's so secret about having to sign my name to a ballot?

Oh, and where's the equality of the election. Everyone who was to mail their ballots in had to pay $1.05!!!! While I realize in the majority of voters in the Ord School District, forking over $1.05 probably isn't that big a deal. But it still poses the potential to eliminate a voter because he/she couldn't come up with the $1.05. Yes, I realize they could take their ballot to the courthouse and personally deliver it, but the possibility exists that someone was unable to pay for the postage or deliver their ballot.

I believe this bond issue election is fraught with problems. It has all kinds of cracks that, if someone chooses to go out and hire an attorney, that someone would be able to challenge the outcome of the election. If the bond issue passes, my advice to the school board ... don't get too anxious to get the shovels in the ground; you may be sitting in a courtroom trying to defend a very faulty election process. And CARE5, don't go celebrating your victory (or should I say "defeat" if the bond issue doesn't pass?), someone from the "other side" may challenge the election's faulty process, and the whole thing may have to be re-done.

Justavistor........I agree wholeheartedly on the process. As I had never voted in a mail-in election before, I was not sure how it worked. But, it definitely did not seem like a secret election. I have heard that some did not vote because of that, but don't know if that is fact or fiction. Guess we will find out, if it is right or wrong.

jab_gone - Tuesday, November 10 2009 at 9:25pm

and just why was it done this way? Was it to save money for the county?

Lawman - Tuesday, November 10 2009 at 9:26pm

I think that was the reason given Jab.........

It will just be nice to have this mess over with.....friend against friend is not good. When I came here in 1975, (dating myself) the people were fighting of the school and the hospital. Now 34 years later, the people are fighting over the school and the hospital. The more we progress, the more we stay the same.

Welcome to Ord, thats just the way it is here...

trone - Tuesday, November 10 2009 at 9:44pm

Ok just to clear up a few things. First of all if you had read the county clerks comments or have been educated on this election process at all you would know that your ballots are kept secret for the simply fact that there exists a three person committee. One person opens the ballot and I'm probably going to get some of this wrong but another person removes the ballot and puts it face down and the other counts. No one person looks at the name on the ballot and the way they voted. Also a person must sign the ballot for legal purposes. This is to signify that they are voting of their own accord and that it is not voter fraud or something to that extent.

newbie34 - Tuesday, November 10 2009 at 9:48pm

On top of that trone, CARE5 planned on observing the process of opening the ballots. AN I have to believe the election comissioner (sp?) knows what needs to be done to ensure the process is legally binding and fair.

Lawman - Tuesday, November 10 2009 at 9:48pm

I am sure you are right trone, and after thinking about it, I am sure this is the way they were told to do it by the Sec.of State's office.

trone - Tuesday, November 10 2009 at 9:51pm

The bond has passed according to the KNLV website just thought everyone might want to celebrate

newbie34 - Tuesday, November 10 2009 at 9:56pm

My thoughts exactly Lawman...I'm sure they either consult with the SofS or he has to approve the process...it doesn't benefit anyone to have questions of election fraud hanging out there.

trone - Tuesday, November 10 2009 at 9:59pm

justavisitor I just got to thinking about your comment and I don't mean any disrespect or anything but I don't really see those who oppose the bond as trying to fight it. The reason for that is because they say that they cannot afford the higher taxes. Therefore they probably can't afford a lawyer to represent their case, unless they had some other motives for trying to defeat the bond issue. If that is the case then so be it they will lose a lot of the respect of the community for centering a campaign around a lack of money and then hiring a lawyer to try and fight a bond that is surely needed.
