Armed Forces Appreciation Day Sept. 26, 2009Valley County Historical Society Hosting Diane Bartels, who is working with the Ord Chamber of Commerce on events for Evelyn Sharp Days, is gathering a list of all the men and women in the area who are currently serving or have served in the Armed Forces. She wants to recognize and honor their mothers, grandmothers, sisters and perhaps other relatives on Saturday, September 26, 2009, in Ord. Plans call for a reception at the Valley County Museum, 2-4 P.M. This date coincides with the nationwide Gold Star and Blue Star observance. Diane is looking to the churches and others in the community for help in compiling this list of military and the names and contact information of their relatives. If you are that person or know of anyone, she would appreciate your help. Please submit name/s, address, telephone number, and, if possible, an E-mail address. You may leave your information with the Ord Chamber of Commerce (308-728-7875; 1514 K St.) or contact Diane directly: Diane R. Bartels, 1801 Mindoro Dr., Lincoln NE 68506 402-429-3342(c), 402-489-3059, DBSharpie@aol.com Thank you. Diane The Valley County Historical Society will be holding a reception to express appreciation to our current and past members of the Armed Forces and their families. The event will be Saturday, September 26, 2009, from 2 - 4 P.M. at the Valley County Museum. There will be a program at 3:00 P.M. Refreshments will be served. This date was originally selected because it coincided with the nationwide recognition of Gold Star and Blue Star mothers and the annual celebration of Evelyn Sharp Days. However, our invitation includes all members of the family, not just the mothers. We hope you will be able to attend. There can never be enough expressions of appreciation for the commitment shown by our military and their families.
