Anachronistic Ball and the Grand Army of the Frontier
If you missed the Valley County Historical Societys Anachronistic Ball, and you missed the shootout at Beetheville by the GAF (Grand Army of the Frontier), well then…you missed what may be the historical events of the year!

Over twenty re-enactors from Texas to Alberta Canada came for the Grand Army’s National match. Civilian woodcutters to Canada’s finest replete with Martini Henry rifles and period sidearms showed up to compete for national awards. Men of stature such as Col. Rattlesnake Jack Robson, Col. Capt. Montgomery Little and Ned Niederlander fired on marauding Indians, took cover behind stacked ammunition boxes and fired from the concealment of the local saloon window, all in pursuit of the elusive Iron Trooper award.
On the Anachronistic Ball front, the band played period music from the 1850’s to the 1970’s. While dancing was somewhat scarce for the soldiers (apparently someone had told them that Ord was over run with beautiful women, true) someone forgot to tell the women that Ord was being over run with Indian Wars period soldiery. The Beye Family from Grand Island saved the day however when they showed up with not one but five young ladies in tow. (See Video Below) Janes Diner on the East side of the square was the scene of the event and after a wonderful meal of roast beef and mashed potatoes a grand time was had by all. Next years event will be bigger and better than ever with hopefully some participation by the local community.
