The Markowski Affair: Comments

Considering the past 2 winters snowfall amounts, I'll bet there were alot of people that would have loved to have their driveway(s) cleared with a front end loader for free with tax payer money.

A picture is worth a thousand words...
Enlarging the city tree trimming crew's picture of the 1103 G St. property, you can make out the power line from the pole. That power line is a LONG way from the trees. The city trucks are parked west of the power line. Where are the city sidewalks or city streets? The trees could have fallen on the rental house, but the power lines weren't in any danger.
Doubt what the picture shows go take a good long look at the property yourself - 1103 G St. (Ord).

My official position on the Markowski affair: Make him pay for the work and rent on the machinery and be done with it. Honestly, too much is being made over this whole deal by a bunch of people who just want to make everyone as miserable as they are. I don't like that he used the equipment and the manpower to do these things, but instead of cutting someone off from their livelihood (and possible putting them on unemployment or some other government aid) reprimand them publicly and make them pay for the use.

Now that I'm off that, why isn't anybody getting on Schafer for being a complete jerk of a neighbor and not seeing that "hey maybe I should help look for his dogs instead of sitting in my house on my butt with a camera." Wouldn't put it past that little pipsqueak to have been the one to let the dogs out in the first place. Funny how you all talk about "neighbor against neighbor" when it suits you, but when the result of that animosity helps your cause in some way, then by all means! How does that saying go? The ends don't justify the means.

ordneb - Wednesday, May 5 2010 at 7:31pm

Shakes,
What makes you so sure the pictures came from Schafer? Looks to me like they came from the Nelson's house!

Shakes - Wednesday, May 5 2010 at 9:23pm

You can tell whose house it is from how close the tall picture window is to the driveway and you can just see the green steps heading up to their door. Plus if it was from Nelson's you would see a more NW angle to the shot.

PMS = Paul Markowski Syndrome, what a winy one. Someone should have just put a cork in his mouth to shut him up. Does he really think people are dumb enough to believe the BS? He's right about one thing - he's a total and complete embarrassment to Ord. He talks about low lifes, what a jerk to talk about Chief Miller that way. PMS should really look in the mirror for the low life. He didn't say a word about what was posted about Edna Whitmore having to pay for her trees being trimmed out of the power line & over her sidewalk.

sting - Wednesday, May 5 2010 at 10:11pm

Irish one - Talk about unprofessionalism, Markowski couldn't show anymore disrespect to Chief Miller by calling him Mr. Miller. Markowski's statements showed contempt for Chief Miller investigating a theft. Markowski believes he's above the law too. Markowski should not only pay the city back, he needs to apologize to the public & make a public apology to Chief Miller.

rock - Thursday, May 6 2010 at 6:26am

Chief Miller was sitting in the back of the room by the door and Markowski was looking at him, while Markowski was having his public meltdown at the podium. I am not sure if Markowski was referring to Chief Miller as a low life, the new home owner on M Street as a low life or both of them. (The Chief for doing his job, investigating a theft, or the new home owner on M Street that Markowski had to pay $200 for the building, or both.)

sting - Thursday, May 6 2010 at 7:23am

Shakes The operative word here is "theft". A long history of theft, the treet trimming isn't just one isolated incident, using city equipment for his own personal use for land leveling, snow removal on many occasions, building moving, lost pet searching, tree trimming...
How many other people got a special phone call from the clerk saying Viaero is looking for a lot? City officials need to be above reproach. Not only should Markowski loose his job for the long history of theft,...but now as utilities superintendent he's calling Police Chief Miller a low life for being above reproach and doing his job. Is all of this going to fly with the mayor, city council or tax payers?

sweetpea - Thursday, May 6 2010 at 8:26am

Is the superintendent dyslexic? He's got it backwards. He supposed to be supplying services to the city, not the other way around. I think Susan - Kid's Zone asked the city a few years ago to cut those trees on Q Street & 11th Street. Our senior ladies and children come after the super's houses...maybe? I don't like that one or six year plan!

Rock posts here with everyone knowing who he is. He goes to the city council, speaks directly to them on how the tax money is being spent. Doesn't this include your tax money?

I want to be sure I understand what your saying. You anonymously critize Rock's posts. You don't show up at the city council meeting to comment on the way the tax money is being spent. You then anonymously call another person by name a pipsqueak. Just what does that make you? What do you call this? You comment about Rock needing to be the bigger person, not just the one with the bigger ego... Who's opinion should be respected here?

Nice job of fouling up the facts on KNLV.

rock - Thursday, May 6 2010 at 9:39am

Shakes, Refering to a taxpayer who wants their tax money spent for it's intended purpose (as a little pipsqueak) sinks to the same level as Markowski referring to the property owner on M Street as a low life, and/or Chief Miller.

Shakes - Thursday, May 6 2010 at 12:18pm

How about this, instead of playing cat and mouse by hiding away to catch video of the people looking for the dogs, call Paul and tell him you'll look for them so the city workers don't have to! You all want to look for the solution that causes the most strife while CLAIMING to want a simple solution. The simple solution in THAT case was to help out a neighbor instead of cowering in the shadows. As far as talking about the camera man, he knows what I think of him because of our personal history, but I probably did go too far calling him names on this site, so for that I apologize. However, that doesn't change the fact that what he did goes right in line with most of the trash on this site - don't help, just cause a ruckus! And for those thinking that I'm supporting Markowski on this, check my original post - I have said nothing supporting or opposing him. I just said if he used city services, make him pay for it, reprimand him and move on. He'll realize he can't get away with it anymore, which should be the point of all this, not going after someone's livelihood.

Sting - How do you know I wasn't at the meeting exactly? Oh, right, you still think you know who I am...sad. The desperate cling to that last thread for so long.

Shakes - Thursday, May 6 2010 at 12:28pm

Rock - Never said anything about Markowski's comments, just commenting that in that one isolated situation, one neighbor helping out another might have kept city workers from being sent out there. The sad part is, what kind of character does that show to our young people? God knows even with our differences if I saw you needed a hand and I was 30 feet away, I would at least offer to help instead of standing off to the side watching.

Sting - Forgot to mention Steffan's favorite saying: Aren't you the pot calling the kettle black? I could substite a maximum five words in the second paragraph of your last post, and guess what? It would be me talking about you! Tell everyone your name, then you can criticize others for not revealing their identity.

sting - Thursday, May 6 2010 at 3:04pm

Shakes says, "...instead of playing cat & mouse by hiding away to catch...people..." What are you doing here, anonymously calling people by name, a pipsqueak? Is that not cat & mouse? You being the mouse.

Shakes says, "As far as talking about the camera man, he knows what I think of him because of our personal history..." Who has the axe to grind here, shakes?

Shakes says, "...don't help, just cause a ruckus!" Rock recently said to sweetpea, "Nothing will change unless issues are confronted to implement change." Shakes says, "He'll (Markowski) realize he can't get away with it anymore..." THAT'S THE POINT, SHAKES!

Shakes says, "The sad part is, what kind of character does that show to our young people?" Shakes, you are showing our young people, if you have an axe to grind with someone, call them by their known name on a blog, and refer to them in a demeaning way while you post anonymously. Then criticize those that are trying to implement change because you don't like them either.

If this site is trash (as you say), then we won't keep you here. You can leave anytime.

PM,
Being a city official puts you in the spotlight. One must show integrity and character at all times when it comes to doing ones job. One can not use the city workers or machinery at ones own discression without having some outcry from the taxpayers. You have worked there for a long time. Trying to "explain" oneself only makes you look guilty. Appologize and pay what you owe. (It could be a lot since this has been happening over several years.)

You must realize you work for us (the taxpayer) and not for yourself.(private business) We the taxpayers own the equipment and pay your salery. Using the equipment and man power from the city for personal reasons should not be one of your "perks".

falcon - Thursday, May 6 2010 at 3:53pm

If PM is an example of what our city officials are like, maybe this is happening in other areas of our local government also.

Those that are overlooking things that need correction makes one just as guilty. A favor here, a favor given there, all on taxpayers shoulders. Who cares if they use the government this or that, it doesn't cost them anything......WRONG! Did anyone have to pay their taxes last week? Boy did they go up.
