Kerry D...

That is all very interesting, but I'm still not totally on board with this....

roberta538 - Tuesday, February 17 2009 at 8:33pm

Yo Huskerfan, easy big guy. If you'll read what I wrote, there is nothing there that should not be said. Caleb was asked in January by a blog person on this very blog to provide the above information. I copied the info in ( )'s that you see in my above blog from the January entry made by someone else. I believe it is not too much to ask for Caleb to provide that information now that he is the head of ED. That should be part of his job.
Yes he was not here when that info came out and little miss Bethanne is gone, but he now sits in the chair and he has access to the info. He can choose to be up front and honest and provide it or he can decide not to provide any information. You and I both know that all the other little queen bees are still there working with Caleb. He is now their boss and they can help him find the information that has been requested if he can't find it himself. It all comes down to what a person wants to do. He has the ability to decide and it looks to me like he has decided it is not in his best interest to be up front and honest and provide the information that was asked for and if he can't get the information form the queen bees, he is choosing not to let us know he tried unsuccessfully to get it. How is that unfair? Seems to me that this is just the obvious being stated out loud.
How is that unfair to Caleb? Doesn't he work for all of us in Ord??

Real Estate School In Alabama...

Hello, write me back if you get a chance....

huskerfan09 - Wednesday, February 18 2009 at 7:55am

Good morning Roberta!

I guess I don't understand why it's such a big deal to explain something that was stated almost a year ago...

Yes, Caleb can go out and find the information, but doesn't he have better things to do with his time than to go back and research all of the claims made by everyone before him? I would rather that he find ways to move our community forward, rather than looking behind and dealing with past events.

Now I am not saying that the 83 businesses don't exist, or that the information is either true or false. It really doesn't matter in my book. I want this community to move forward - and we can't move forward if we are constantly looking behind us and dwelling on the past.

Now if Caleb (or anyone else for that matter) had made those comments yesterday, last week, last month....then, yes, please explain. But almost a year ago? Let's move on.

Unknown/Guest - Wednesday, February 18 2009 at 9:36pm

huskerfan,

I am all in favor of moving forward as a community, but I think not addressing MAJOR false statements of the past is a mistake. Especially when these statements are being used as a foundation to move us forward into our future.
If the claim that "we have 83 new businesses" is being used to bring in new enterprises then they should be verified. Credibility is the issue. If as a community our leaders don't have credibility then we are asking others to build our future on lies. That is not a good foundation to build on.
Overstating the facts and people taking action on them as "truth" is how our national economy got into this financial crisis. Do we want to continue down this same road locally? I for one do not. Let's get the story straight.

consolidate all bills...

I would like to subscribe to this blog - A conversation with Ray Ozzie about Live Mesh " Jon Udell. How to go about doing it?...

newbie34 - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 8:21am

I don't recall the report from last April, but did they state a time frame? I believe the ED office was started in 2001. To say 83 new businesses have opened in Valley County (which is the EDs realm) is not unreasonable. That averages to be 12-13 businesses per year. Sure some businesses had a short shelf life (ethanol plant, Hamilton) but they were still businesses that opened in that time frame.

I know that some of the people on here will never trust the ED office, and will never trust Caleb for that reason, but I tend to look at it this way. Caleb chose to move his family to Ord. Does anyone really think he moved them here to make Ord a worse place to live? If you truly think that, then you are a whole new type of cynical that I have yet to meet.

Good day, and good luck to all the wrestlers going to state.

roberta538 - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 9:45am

Of course Caleb did not move here to make Ord a worse place. He moved here because he is a young man that needed a job. The job of ED director is a good job. It pays better than most jobs in Nebraska. He also had no idea of what he really moved into. But he now has the chance to find out and to make the choice of what is the most important to him. Is it to follow the status quo as set up by the good-old-boys or is it to do the right thing? Now is his chance to show everyone here what he is made of. Either right the wrongs and build on truth and honesty or stay the same course. You can't build on a bunch of lies and ill will. The only way to go forward is to clean up the mess and build on truth and good- will. Ord is split between two factions. One is sick and tired of the same old lies and underhanded scratch my back and stab the ones we say to stab ways of the good old boys led by Boss Hog. Until the boards in town all are swept clean and the ED office and all other government offices deal in a fair and honest manner this community cannot go forward. It is not possible to build new on a dirty mine filled area. This community has two choices to either clean up or die. Boss Hog and all his little gang members have done too many bad things to let it go and just go on. They also continue to do bad things and fill their pockets underhandedly. How can you build on that??

admin - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 10:28am

I had not planned to address this yet, but I see the time has come.
I had a good meeting with Caleb Pollard a couple of weeks ago at Janes. We spoke for a little over an hour and in my conversation with him I was impressed by his sincerity and his willingness to address any question or comment I put to him. He has worked and lived in places I don't think I would care to drive through much less set up housekeeping and I'm sure his educational background is more than up to the task of running Ords Economic Development program. I did take the time to warn him of this towns proclivity towards chewing up young professionals and spitting them out if they don't agree with the "powers that be". Case in point, Dr. Rachel Blake, Iraqi war veteran, did not support the hospital bond, buh bye! When asked by one of the county commisioners to explain what had happened, she said she had been advised by one of our leading lawyers not to talk about it. You can take that one of two ways and I'll leave you to figure out what those are.
He did say that he may not work for ED forever but planned to raise his family here none the less. I think that is an admirable stance to take and I commend him for it. I also hope that he doesn't end up like Dr. Blake, Drs. Stevens, Dr. Hagge, Dr...you finish the list, its not just doctors.
We all seem to have an idea of what we want Ord to become. Not all of us agree on everything but I am more than willing to give Mr. Pollard his shot at it. He will have to address past grievences before he can move forward, but I think that he will do so if asked. I intend to ask and we can go from there. You can't blame the new guy for what the old one did, you just hope he has enough sense not to make the same mistakes and that he doesn't end up a scapegoat for others past sins.
Good luck Caleb, from the moderator of the Viral Vent.

to huskerfan:

my-my-my I just have to shake my head in amazement. Of course, there has to be accountability to be credible. If there were 83 new businesses, maybe we would shop there and actually find something that is not 2 or 3 years old. Where are they, can't find them.........

The other side in town has decided not to play, they will not shop here any longer, they do not want their tax money going to ED and those that fill their pockets on ED money. They boast, I have donated my time, BIG DEAL. You also got administrative fees to manage the money. Give us a Break. In addition to all kinds of tax breaks you created yourself.

Bring out the petitions!!!!!!! We have had enough.

roberta538 - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 11:52am

You know Ord residents need to wake up. That new hospital they are building will be a new building. The inside will be the old one that is here now. Same old system. That means half this community will not use it.

I have visited with two people this week who had to take their elderly loved ones to G.I. Hospital. The G.I. hospital staff tried to suggest that they would want to continue care at Ord Hospital. They were told emphatically NO. That staff look surprised and asked well, where is your hospital then? She was told here in G.I.

So there you go. You can build a new building but if the same old systems are still at work this new hospital will not pay for itself because many many residents here will not use it. Same thing applies to anything else built in this town. I know of lots of people just as was suggested by mythfluffer that refuse to shop here unless they need something they can't wait to get in another town. That means they are only buying small things like food items here in Ord. They have made a decision not to supply any tax money they can to the Ord ED office.

So you see this town has no future if the politics in this town, the status quo, continues. Unfortunately, I don't see any sign that the good old boys want to give up the gravey train.

huskerfan09 - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 12:04pm

Exactly, mythfluffer, bring out the petitions! I'll wait to see you do that.....or any one of you!!

Or are we all just hiding behind anonymous screen names so we can talk about it but never get anything done??

mythfluffer - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 12:36pm

My-My-My----huskerfan, looks like your feathers are ruffled.

Must be in the "in" group. I don't think anybody is hiding, are you?

When the petitions are ready, I am sure they will be done in the light of day.

roberta538 - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 12:54pm

Well, well, well. Sounds like huskerfan is all worked up. Maybe he would like to do the petitions himself with all that pent up energy. It would also help him deal with his anger about talking "behind anonymous screen names, but never getting anything done."

Maybe he will want to do it for:

"FOR THE GOOD OF THE COMMUNITY"

mythfluffer - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 12:58pm

Oh Roberta, GO GIRL GO GIRL GO GIRL

huskerfan09 - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 1:20pm

No, I am not hiding! I'm calm, I am not the one who is stirring up old, dead issues that have been hashed over for the hundredth time.

No, I don't believe I am in the "in" group - in fact, I think that I'm too new to the community to really understand all of the groups.....I certainly don't know who the "Boss Hog" is that you all so commonly refer to....or his groupies (the "in" crowd).

It's just that numerous people have brought up petitions, yet nothing has been done.

I am sick of all of the talk and no action! You can talk a great game, but if nothing is ever done about it, what good does it do to talk about it?

Are we all just talk? Who's going to step up to the plate and force change?

Any takers?

(Now am I the one ruffling feathers? How fun for the Chanticleers!! We certainly are a bunch of fighting chickens!!)

roberta538 - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 2:06pm

You don't sound calm.

And you have already had the need for the old issues to be delt with before forward progress can be made. So why are you still beating that horse?

If you are sick of all talk and not action, do something yourself!

We that have lived here for our whole life knows what happens to those that try to fix the problems. We have already tried numerous times and got beaten up. We are acting as a news source for folks that don't know the true workings of this community. There are many people that just don't have the puzzle put together. This blog has done more to shed light on the underbelly of this town than anything I have seen in 65 years. So lets see you fix it, lets see you get beaten up. Those that have are too tired to do anything else except talk about it and hope it educates the mass of people that have not looked at the problems and all the "deals" that go on here. If you don't want to talk about it that's your choice. Don't blog and get busy,
we look forward seeing the work you want done being done by you.

Unknown/Guest - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 3:15pm

Dear huskerfan,

Guess you must be quite new to the area.
This blog is Ord TALK. Not everything said here results in action. But how do you know something isn't being done?
Some of these people on this blog have been attending meetings of every kind and know what is going on here in Ord. They do participate where able, and really do know what is happening here in our community. It is interesting attending city council meetings, county board meetings, school board meetings,Chamber meetings, etc. Every one in town should attend these meetings and become informed on the "goings on" in the county. Some of these people are board members and belong to community organizations and activities. They are not a bunch of fighting chickens. They are people who are truely concerned about their community and their children and grandchildrens future. Some families have been here for over 100 years. They have a vested interest here and have been working to be informed and involved in the community. Not everyone agrees on how things should be run, and there are certain morals that one lives their lives by. Not everyone has morals. Some choose to live their lives misleading others. We see it on television everyday. More and more people are being investigated because of their poor choices and greed. One can go for years without being caught in their greed or lies or sin, but eventually it catches up to you. If you don't understand what has happened here in Ord do some investigating on your own.
Keep your eyes and ears open. What happens on a national level also happens on the local level. Names and faces are different, but politics are the same.

admin - Thursday, February 19 2009 at 6:30pm

Patience boys and girls. With petitions come lawyers and the checking out of legalities that have to be followed. Petitions could be trotted out today but whats the point if they are legally worthless? Dotted i's and crossed t's first. Just sayin'...
Regardless of which "side" you are on, if you are really fired up about change, we can meet away from the anonimity of screen names and see if this is viable. Stay tuned...

Lawman - Friday, February 20 2009 at 1:40pm

Huskerfan:

1st of all, I don't think everyone here hides behind a "screen name" as you call it. Yes I have a screen name, and I am sure that about everyone knows who I am. It doesn't take much imagination to figure it out. And I use the same name on every blog that I take part in.

2nd. As admin stated, nothing is done over night. It takes time to get everything right.
And when, whatever is done, I think you would agree it needs to be right.

I am not here to bad mouth people, but to try in a small way to get things right in Ord. And, yes there are problems as some of the bloggers state. Believe them, as it is the truth.

And to the people I have talked to, that tend to read this blog everyday, but say they have not contributed, please do contribute, whether pro or con. Your voice counts also.
