The Viral Vent: CommentsWhen I am not at college, I work two part time jobs. I get to talk to alot of people. I overhear them talking to other customers in the checkout. All of them, and I mean all of them say it's about time that PMS stealing from the city needs to be stopped. Most think that nothing is going change. Sweetpea, Nothing with change unless issues are confronted to implement change. We seen this when we needed gravel on the muddy roads, so our seniors weren't falling down in the mud on the way to their mailbox. We seen this a little over a year ago with our police department. Both issues when confronted brought about positive change, with a dramatic improvement in services under the direction of Mayor O'Brien. Both issues, I can say the mayor did an outstanding job. That is why I am taking a wait and see approach. code of conduct? for city workers? does Ord have a phamplet on that one. would that be like, a doctor that was preforming an operation and the attending nurse witnessed a error in judgment that caused additional problems. doesn't the nurse have a duty to report the error? maybe the city boys have a duty to the tax payers, and the mayor. stealing is stealing. wheather it is in the form money or time and equipment. The Code OF Conduct. Rock - Just so you might end up sounding half-way intelligent at some point, you might want to say "we saw" or "we have seen" instead of "we seen." Shakes, You'll notice that not one single seat on the county board or city council or the mayor is running opposed in the upcoming election. Serving in public office is the place for people who truly wish to serve their community or take part in improving things. But once you actually get into public office you'll often find that things aren't as they seem from the outside. Just ask George Baker. He and his supporters were so disenchanted with the county board that they got him to run for office. He got elected. Now that he has served awhile, look back at his record and see just how many times he has voted against the status quo. It leads one to the conclusion that either things weren't really that bad on the board or he has simply given up, in which case he needs to vacate the office. I hope he doesn't because I voted for him. Actually, I haul my trash to Burwell, its closer and its approved by the state. I do love irony and I believe it was City Attorney Jensen (at the time) who objected to my request for a lower trash rate since by business does not generate much trash. (What comes around goes around.) Kim Farnstrom checked the state laws (which just so happen to trump the local ordinances)and came up with the same solution the council secretary did on Monday night. Looks like the car club will get an exemption though courtesy of J & J with any luck. They deserve it, they bring a lot of business into this town over the Fathers Day Weekend. Shakes, Open your mouth and insert your foot. Check back on the front page later this AM and you can read my response to the Markowski Meltdown. Axe to grind? What axe is this? Shakes The operative word here is "theft". A long history of theft, the treet trimming isn't just one isolated incident, using city equipment for his own personal use for land leveling, snow removal on many occasions, building moving, lost pet searching, tree trimming... shakes I can see that as a valid answer, Rock. That and the fact that no one would vote for you. Look on every board in this town and tell me that none of those people have businesses of their own. You can't find ONE board in town that doesn't have a business owner on it. You seem to have plenty of time to write letters, make phone calls, and do research for your arguments, why couldn't you do THE EXACT SAME THING ON A BOARD? Talk about poor excuses. I can see the campaign slogan now: "Man of NO action, but plenty of hot air!" Forget small town politics, you belong in DC! Shakes says, "...instead of playing cat & mouse by hiding away to catch...people..." What are you doing here, anonymously calling people by name, a pipsqueak? Is that not cat & mouse? You being the mouse. See my posts on front page. Shakes, And you have proven yourself, falcon? What character and integrity have you shown exactly? Last I checked you were doing...well pretty the same thing on this site as I'm doing. The only difference is you are directing your comments at me instead of Rock. Pot/Kettle/Black...you know how it goes. Shakes, as I said before, I was asked that question before by someone whom I respect, that individual respected my answer. I responded to you for the same reason that I would swat at a fly. Man of no action...plenty of Hot Air...that describes you well shakes... Criticizing those of us that are trying to stop the abuses of our taxes. Is this the best support Markowski can muster? after watching the meltdown, I decided to again go to sight of crime at 1105 g street in which markowski said that his crew was trimming trees. counted back 3 trees looked up and yes there was two large limbs that had been removed. I'll have to give those two limbs a maybe on the possiblity that they could have taken out the powerline at 1105 g. But the facts show that all the tree trimming was done at the 1103 g address not 1105 g. and all the trees in that line were trimmed to the east side only? If the city was ordered to trim the trees at 1105 g they need a lesson in addresses in Ord. Rock - I am not a Markowski supporter in this case. Read my comments on the front page. All I'm saying towards what I think should happen is punish him, make him pay for the services, and move on with this in the back of the councils' mind. My idea is a simple one and I don't care to get into his comments because I believe enough is being made of them on here already. If I was his supporter, you would see me defending his actions - I haven't done that. ...Hey, you know, we're family here... you pay up, we give ya protection, right Jimmie, you don't pay, we don't pick up yer gahbage....fuggittaboutit... "Friendly and Positive" aren't exactly how I would describe your past comments concerning my teenage daughter Shakes. To comment you must be logged in. Nebraska Revised Statue 19-419
Mayor; council members; office; duties. The mayor and council members shall...in a general way, constantly investigate all public affairs concerning the interest of the city and investigate and ascertain, in a general way, the efficiency and manner in which all departments of the city government are being conducted; and the mayor shall recommend to the city council all such matter as in his or her judgment should receive the investigation, consideration, or action of that body.
Additionally,
Chapter 18 of the Nebraska Revised Statues covers perks for utilities superintendents as a prohibited practice,
and
Let's not forget the code of conduct for public employees.
Is there anyone of our elected city officers looking to protect the tax payers from fraud, abuse, theft, etc. or are they looking to protect the good old boy network?
We will just have to wait and see.
