sting better yet, I would like to know how the chamber of commerce stands on this issue. since they are so heavy into progressive business.I believe this would enter into their field of expertise. would anyone like to bet that you will not hear a word from the chamber... 10-1 says that they will hide until the smoke clears. any takers????

Caleb Pollard - Tuesday, April 27 2010 at 9:19pm

Pitbull - I'll take you up on it. Instead of hiding behind the thin veil of anonymity, stop by my office and we can chat. My door is always open.

Caleb Pollard, Glad to see you post. I would very much like to talk to you about this issue. My belief is Ord needs to withdrawal from the Valley County Economic Development, and drop the tax support. Clearly the city is not enthusiastic about promoting or supporting independent business, but chooses to act in a competitive manner. In my attempted conversation (for lack of a better description) with the mayor, the mayor is in full support of PM'S activities, and generally believes the city's competition with private business is within his scope of authority, as well as using city equipment and crews to perform work at PM'S income producing property.

Not knowing your schedule I would welcome a conversation with you, my schedule is open (with the exception of honey do chores). Please give me a call at 308 730 2610 when you have time available for me to stop by your office. Thank you for your time. Guy Brock

I'll even supply the pastries from Rosies.

caleb pollard. stopping by and chatting doesn't get it done. give the poeple a reason to be a chamber member. action man action. what is, talk is cheap and everyone knows your not. and for your open door policy the door is held on by the ties that bind you. or should I say the boards that bind you. good luck.

Here's a quick update on the recent controversy surrounding PM'S activities...

I have requested from Mayor O'Brien the work orders and other related documents of the tree trimming activities at the income producing property owned by PMS. After a verbal dualing contest (of which there have been several) the mayor agreed to provide my verbal request for the publicly owned documents and moved from his position of stating that he does not know of any work orders or logs other than a chalk board.

rock Do you think Caleb will take you up on your offer? I think he might just do it.

I have been reading the Quiz lately. I want to thank the police chief for cleaning up the used cars. Let's not forget latest the appliances too. Good Job! :)

I also liked this weeks Ord Quiz vox pop (April 21) comments from Cheryl. I have found myself thinking about the outside chores we did as kids growing up, not that long ago. Now that I am in a college dorm room, I haven't had to do them as much for a few years. I appreciate now what my parents were trying to teach me - taking care of your property and having pride. I have found out that this has carried over to everything I do now. I guess I don't understand how the other half lives, as I have never known anything different. Anyways, kudos to Cheryl for her vox pop article.

Sting, Caleb has already responded in the affirmative. After all who could resist the opportunity to enjoy Rosie's pastries along with great company. (sweet & sour??) I am also anxious to get a look at our new community college.

The cat has been watching the bug (top of Viral Vent page) and trying to get him for days now. The bug keeps doing figure eights and driving the cat crazy.

Sting, No documents from Mayor O'Brien yet. Let's wait and see.
In reviewing my conversation with Mayor O'Brien, he stated that there was NOT any power lines involved in the tree trimming of the city crews of PM'S income producing rental property. However, Mayor O'Brien did state that there was a telephone line involved in the tree trimming, then he went on to state that the city has nothing to do with the telephone lines. This was then followed up by a question to me, "What do you think now?" My response to Mayor O'Brien was, "I know. You have discovered what the rest of us already knew."

With Mayor O'Brien's statements it is clear as to what transpired, particularly when you view the east side of the trees (located near the lot line) that were trimmed, on the property owned by PMS (as an income producing rental property) that was neatly trimmed, but the west side of those same trees that were trimmed were left untouched (owned by another) that did involve a different power line running directly through the trees to the property immediately to the west.

Additionally Mayor O'Brien stated that PMS had spent $3,800 (???) previously for tree trimming, which clearly states to me that PMS was looking for ways to transfer that cost burden to other sources. It is my understanding that PMS owns 5 or 6 income producing rental properties.

Ironically between P & Q streets and 10th and 11th streets there is a power line in the middle of this block that is overgrown by several trees of which PMS refuses to trim, as well as the trees hanging over Q street between 10th & 11th streets that the trucks and school buses hit while passing through. PMS has time to initiate a work order for the city crews to trim the trees at his 1103 G Street income producing rental property, but does not have the time or the inclination to do the work that is needed on the abandoned east side of town.

rock - Thursday, April 29 2010 at 11:55pm

I was uptown around lunch time today when a very nice lady stopped me. She said she did not fully understand the tree trimming issue of the PMS property. She said she had spoken with the mayor. He stated PMS trims trees all over town even on private property where a tree maybe hanging over a sidewalk or street endangering people walking on the sidewalk like kids, or vehicles on the street. I responded stating that the mayor is not comparing apples to apples. The trimming of trees at the 1103 G Street property did not involve a city street, sidewalk, or power lines. This was done for cosmetic appearances only. If this tree trimming of PM'S income producing rental property was done to remove the trees from the power lines, then the power lines to the house immediately to the west would also have been done, as the same power pole services both properties. Very weak Mr. Mayor, very weak.

Later in the afternoon this same lady called me and said she drove by the property to look for herself, and stated she was very angry with Mayor O'Brien that he misled her to believe that there was a sidewalk or street there and that PMS was helping to protect the citizens. She said she could also see that the trees that had the power lines running through it had not been touched. She continued stating she was very disappointed in Mayor O'Brien, either he has not looked at the property, and does not know what he's talking about or he's covering up for PMS. I agreed.

It appears as though Mayor O'Brien is headed in the direction of complicity with PMS, ignoring his duty as the chief executive officer for the city of Ord, and protecting the voting tax payers. I could be wrong about the possible complicity, we will wait and see.

I would like to encourage everyone to attend the Ord City Council Meeting, Monday May 3rd at 7:30 pm at the Ord City Hall. The Nebraska Open Meeting Act, Section 84-1412 establishes the right of members of the public to attend and the right to speak at meetings of public bodies (if you desire to speak...) Mayor O'Brien may limit each person speaking at the public comment portion to two minutes, so bone up on your speed talking skills.

Just a friendly reminder to all you Viral Vent readers today is Arbor Day, so plant a tree today. This way we can ensure future business for PMS Tree Service and make the world greener too. Job Security?

OBrien & Markowski should be ashamed of themselves. Markowski takes the city crews to his rental house to have the city crews cut & trim trees to save him money. (OBrien gives his blessings saying Markowski trims trees all over town, over sidewalks and out of power lines) - just plain BS. Edna Whitmore at 1740 L Street has to hire a tree trimming company to cut down trees in the alley that are grown up through her power lines & over her sidewalk. Edna is an elderly widow lady on a fixed income who plants beautiful flowers in her front yard for all to enjoy at her own expense. OBrien & Markowski, you two are some real pieces of work!

pitbull - Friday, April 30 2010 at 9:59pm

OBrien needs to take care of the pms tree deal for the poeple that he represents and take a stand for future city workers of Ord. anybody that has looked into this tree deal of pms's will come away with the verdict of guilty of misuse of public funds.... man up OBrien or leave in disgace! Markowski on the other hand... I expect nothing less.
