Tincan, I am an thinking that hunter is thinking of the reports that came out early last week that named Tier One Bank as being in trouble.

tincan - Monday, April 12 2010 at 12:29am

Which bank is Tier one? Is that the ole 1st National bank or Nebr state bank? It is really hard at time to keep up with all the changes from a distance. I guess when I come back for Memorial Day I will be surprised again as I usually am every year.

Thanks motherhen

Tincan
I understand the school board borrowed the money at 5% interest or so and then put that money in a bank at piddly interest. The entire amount of the bond did not need to be taken down now, or any, at this time. It is my opinion that the reason to do so may be a kickback. For this reason, the whereabouts of the deposit might not be made known in order to prevent citizens from connecting the dots between board and bank.
Perhaps Admin can help clear this up.
I do not know more than the rest, but Admin seems to.
While he is at it, perhaps Admin could explain what is brick "facia" on the fire hall, and how it is cheaper than "brick", and by the way, how much "free" money has been "granted" the county to pay for the fire hall, as Admin explained to us would be done as he was falling for the hook, line, and sinker. I am sure there are many small towns out there that want to follow our lead and cash in on all that free money that is just waiting for the asking.

Hello hunter,
To start with, I guess I would rather be hoodwinked by people who are going to come to my house and put out a fire as opposed to those who build a new gymnasium because there "might be a fire". (through their own failure to handle a budget that should have taken care of the problem years ago)

I would rather be fooled by the folks that will save my family by cutting them out of a car than by those who build monuments (read New Hospital) to their own arrogance and self importance but still refuse to let 2/3rds of a towns population see their own doctors in a public tax supported waste of money.

I guess when you compare the 1.5 million dollars to the 15 Million Dollars or the 32 Million Dollars spent by the aforementioned, I just picked the lessor of the prices and the one that will do the greatest amount of good for the greatest number of people. I don't have a clue about the "facia" but I will check into the grant money, if any.

In which bank is the ten million school bond sitting?
Which bankers have received from the school board over the past 3 months a profit of $125,000.00 paid out of our property taxes?
Who are the board members of that bank?
Who are the board members of the school?
Are any on both lists?
What free money is coming to town to pay for the fire hall?
In what way is the brick on the fire house facia and not brick?
Where is the public document that spells out exactly how much tax break was given to the donor of the fire hall land?
What was the profit, paid out of county taxes, for the middle men who bought and sold the land for the Ord Dome?
Which county supervisor is willing to present for public review the public document which projects the 25 year hospital bond payoff?
Which county supervisor is willing to step forward with the truth, that they were never given a 25 year projection?
Which county supervisor will present for public review the estimated property tax increases needed to pay these bonds?

Anybody heard that Markowski used city workers and equipment to trim the trees down at his rental house? No power lines involved and I understand there are pictures. I also understand that our mayor said he was "reprimanded". Did he reimburse the city for the time used on a job that should have been farmed out to the private sector or is this one of the "perks" that comes along with his job? (kind of like knowing when Verizon was coming and buying up the land and getting one of those variences that lets certain people build certain structures that the rest of the populace is excluded from. By the way, love that new store they put up!) If this is true, why didn't lame duck Mayor O'Brien fire him on the spot for misuse of public funds? Come on ordtalk, pull your head out of your teapot and get some answers! I would also like hunter4766 to answer some of his own questions as he seems to have the answers. (Never ask a question you don't already know the answer to!) Please enlighten the rest of us!

Last summer I spent $700 to have one tree removed and several other trees trimmed. A few weeks ago, I spent $500 to have one tree removed. I hired Leth's Tree Service to perform the tasks. They did an outstanding job, of which I was very pleased.

Yes, Mr. Universe I agree with you. O'Brien should be demanding Markowski's resignation, right after he reimburses the city for it's cost or in the alternative O'Brien should be submitting his resignation citing incompetence and dereliction of duty on his part.

Question - How is it that Markowski can use the city owned equipment and personel (for who the tax payers pay their wages and benefits yet still remains at his job for the city of Ord), while denying an independent business the opportunity to perform this work? I have said it before and I will say it again, lack of supervision and mismanagement on O'Brien's part...

pitbull - Sunday, April 18 2010 at 9:59pm

mayor o'brien should ask for markowski's resignation' because not only did he use the equipment, but he took that monday tuesday and wednesday off. I understand that the work order was carried out that monday when he was gone. that means the work order had to been issued the prior week. kind of like premeditated. I don't think the other city workers came to work monday and said lets all go down to markowski's rental house and take the whole day to trim his tree's. o'brien needs to grow some stones.....

Points well said, so much for new businesses in Ord and economic development when the city is in competition with private business.

In addition to PM's tree service competing with licensed, bonded and insured tree service, why stop there. How about PM's electrical service, to compete with our local electricians, as well as PM's building moving using city owned equipment. Let's not forget PM's real estate brokerage specializing in shady real estate deals. (I.e. school lots, Viaero lots) I question what the mayor's, the utilities board's, and the city councils' involvement are in all of these schemes...

I was asked a question today, as to how difficult it maybe to replace PMS? Replacing PMS would not be difficult at all considering how many unemployed people there are in this country. I am sure that there are an abundance of people qualified to be the utilities superintendent for a small town in Nebraska that would be happy to have the position, not abuse it, and not thumb their nose at the tax payers or their supervisor (mayor).

Maybe it's nothing, but when I drove into the Grocery Cart parking lot over the noonhour today, there was a white city truck and a large van with the "O M C" license plate parked at the old Hamilton building.

ordneb - Friday, April 23 2010 at 7:24pm

Wow, can you spell c-o-n-s-p-i-r-a-c-y? Maybe we can get Sting to do some undercover work for us to find out what's going on.

I saw twelve men go into the court house today. Probably the jury for the big Paul Dorr felonious assault trial. They'll probably have to call out the National Guard for security. Rock(et Scientist) can be the executioner. I'll bring up a motion at the county board meeting to see if we can pay him with Wozab money. It's supposed to be used to better the community.

Speaking of the county board, I don't seem to see many votes against the status quo from the Vent supporters lone board member. What's up with that? Give up? Tired of fighting? Bought off? Makes one wonder. Seems no one on here wants to talk about that. Come on Sting, spill the beans.

tincan - Saturday, April 24 2010 at 12:24am

Which building is the old Hamilton building? Never heard a building called that.

ordneb, are you talking about our sex offender? I noticed he is still on the board.

Reporter Mark Coddington - Depression era shill for tax diversion opportunists:
"... rehire a Lincoln architect....pre-bond planning... hold an open house and town hall meeting on building plans....a group of local businessmen who came to the board's facilities committee......help resolve the district's space problem....outside-in approach....welcome change....like a godsend...commmunity stepping up and saying, 'This is a problem. We've got to do something.'"...$6.5 million.... $8.5 million....The group....long-term solution to the school's space shortage.....amazed....
"I was just appalled at the overcrowdedness that I suspected happening...His eyes didn't deceive him....house the students....deficiencies...heating, ventilation and fire and handicapped accessibility codes....weren't getting all the information they needed from the school board....we are going to have answers to their questions,'" Taylor said. "They're going to know what they're voting on."...So Taylor's group will be running next week's meeting and fielding most of the public's questions about the proposals......group of community members take initiative significantly alters the tone...take away suspicion...community's perspective is completely changed....get involved sooner and more deeply...."Now is the time to become involved and engaged.. "We don't want anybody to be left behind. We don't want anybody's voice to be left out."

hunter4766 - Monday, April 26 2010 at 2:44pm

The Ben Franklin was Injun given to the city so that there would be a place for cold call phone harassment - first by a company called Timberline, then another called Hamilton. Sort of a Mumbai on the North Loup. These companies turned a buck by monitoring how many times their employees sneezed between cold calls. There is no convicted sex offender on the county board. An accusation was made and paraded in the papers, looks like the state and local troop railroaders have lost steam on their locomotive.

rock - Rumor has it that Mayor gave into you. He's allowing you to talk at the May 3 (Monday night) city board meeting??? I thought something must have been up, the way he was zooming around town today. Oh, and the phone calls too with the pretty boy. They don't want you back as a guest speaker, do they?

rock - Tuesday, April 27 2010 at 10:55am

Irish one, It sure appears that the mayor does not have an open door policy, nor does he want the voting tax payers asking questions about his oversight (or lack of) of the city employees. The mayor began reciting his rehearsed rendition of, "I was elected by the voters to do a job..." What the mayor fails to see or understand is that his performance in the execution of that elected job is subject to review, comment, analysis, praise or criticism, as well as his judgment being sound or clouded.
The verbal reaction of the mayor, as well as what he said was remarkable, over a few simple questions of PMS and the tree trimming by city crews of the income producing property owned by PMS. Clearly the mayor did not want to put me on the agenda for Monday night's city board meeting to address the tree trimming issue, and laid out a variety of road blocks or at the very least hurdles to overcome. While keeping an open mind, we will see what happens next.

sting - Tuesday, April 27 2010 at 12:11pm

Here's something to think about.

Would Mayor Randy O'Brien be so nonchalant if Paul was engaged in the funeral home services, with city crews and equipment? I think not. "Obtuse" is this intentional or not?
