Check your facts, Big Irish...I think you will find that the Committees from the City and County have had at least one meeting on this subject.

rock - Tuesday, March 10 2009 at 10:01am

The Valley County Board of Supervisors has offered to the city of Ord to merge the city & county police protection, with the city of Ord being responsible for it's own portion of the costs. The city of Ord's budget is in access of $387,000 in comparison to the Valley County Sheriff Department's budget of $191,000. The city of Ord is not being fiscally responsible and good stewards of our tax dollars by refusing to seriously talk to the county about merging the city/county law enforcement departments, making the chief law enforcement officer accountable to the voters. Thereby, removing the political influence that has been hanging over the Ord Police Department for years. There is no reason to believe that hiring a new chief of police is going to change the lack of oversight, by the mayor or by the respectable members of the city board overseeing the Ord Police Department and certain city council board members continuing to use their position, as a board member to protect themselves from their illegal activies. I urge you to contact your city council members and Mayor O'Brien asking them in good faith to explore this merger.

Which way is it lawman? If I see someone staggering & get into a vehicle and start it, giving every indication that they are intoxicated and about to drive a vehicle, and I did in fact report this observation as a POSSIBLE drunk driver, and maybe north bound on 16th street, after backing their vehicle away from the curb, being diagonally parked have I fulfilled my responsibility or should I be charged with making a false report after the possible drunk driver receives a cell phone call warning him that he had just been turned in as a possible drunk driver, after being broadcast over the police frequencies, then the possible drunk driver chosing the responsible thing to do in getting someone else to drive him home.

lawman i have spoken with the valley county board of supervisors to get MY facts straight. There has been no serious discussions about any city/county merger of the police protection for the city and county. Only the communications has been discussed, which the city is now backing out on. This is obviously so certain board members can continue to recieve cell phone calls warning them that their illegal activities have been broadcasted. If the sheriff's dept retained the 911 calls they would not be broadcasted. The change to region 26 was said to have been done as being cheaper without taking into account the volume of calls that the city will be paying for. This will prove itself to be true in the very near future.

Lawman - Tuesday, March 10 2009 at 11:43am

Rock.................if you in fact reported the possible drunk driver, then you have fullfilled your responsiblity. I still want to see the proof that he was warned by a cell phone call.

lawman, i'm irish one, not big irish. That's big mug. I fail to see how what little I have written is that big of a deal.

rock - Thursday, March 12 2009 at 6:28pm

lawman, the proof is it the phone records that are being obtained. As the county attorney says this proves exactly what i have been saying about some of the city council members.

Ord has changed in the last 45 years. It looks like the city fathers are not any better the country fathers we have in Washington, D.C. I know when I come back to visit, there is one lawyere who's name keeps coming up that have alot of people unhappy. Really too bad, as this use to be a very good town to live in. Times has changed, and as we all know, it is not alway for the better. I hope there are better times coming for Ord and the county.

rock - Friday, March 13 2009 at 8:57am

tincan This is a great little town. It has changed since I grew up here to the age 13,returning and now being semi-retired those changes are for the most part good. As for the rest of it, its all about to change, change for the better. The little clicks that have brought all the drugs to this town and county is about to be broken. The eyes of our decent city fathers have just been recently shocked open. They are now beginning to see, how one bad apple on the board is disgracing the entire board leading people to have very little confidence in them, and leading us to believe they are all involved. Stay tuned, we have some very powerful help here now.

rock, Good sentiments and good luck. I've seen too many times where "things are about to change" and then its back to business as usual. People try to institute change here, but the same old folks get elected year after year, the same tired policies get passed and the folks in office think that that they are the only ones who can fix the problems. Lawman and a couple of others have mentioned retroactive term limits, I'm starting to think that may be part of the answer. Great thread so far, at least we're off the other 800 pound gorilla in the room! Don't worry, it'll be back just as soon as we find out that it is actually going to go on the tax rolls. In 3, 2, 1...

This blog actually has nothing to do with the subject matter, and yet everything to do with it. I was talking to a friend yesterday, who reads this site. Whether he contributes to it or not, I don't know. But, he had a question, which was an excellent ont, IMHO.

That being, why, do the people on that blog, have to continually degrade people, with names, such as Boss Hogg, town drunk, and things of that nature. An excellent point. Can't we get things across to people, without these things? IMHO it would make the blog much better. I think everyone on here knows my feelings, about most of the subject matter on here, but I sincerely hope I have gotten my points across without name calling.

Just my opinion..

This sentence indicates you are talking about more than one. You said SOME of the city council memebers

Which is it?

rock - Friday, March 13 2009 at 8:12pm

lawman, to clarify one has recently proved my point of what I have been saying, some indicating there maybe others involved.

irish one - Friday, March 13 2009 at 8:41pm

Lawman- I work with this one city council member rock is talking about, and it's not by choice. There is not many ways to describe someone like that. Calling a spade, a spade. It's my understanding after talking to them, many of the other board members know what Rock has said to be true, but there's nothing they can do about it. So they must work with what they have. I'm sure they would just as soon that the person would resign too.

irish one - Friday, March 13 2009 at 8:46pm

Rock- He is the only one that I know of that engages in these escapades that you have been talking about. I appreciate what you are doing, rock. Many of us can't or won't say that openly as it could affect our jobs. I'm told what you said at Jan. meeting was the beginning of the resignation of Police Chief.

irish one - Friday, March 13 2009 at 8:56pm

rock- hubby says to tell you he heard your newest radio ad. He says this one is even better than the others. I can't wait to hear this one.
